BEVERAGES

Alcohol seems to have played an important role in the lives and music of Shane MacGowan and The Pogues. Many of their songs are about booze, and Shane is rarely seen without a drink in his hand.

I occassionally enjoy sitting back with a beverage myself. Here are a few of my favorites.

***BEER***

Beamish Irish Stout ~

This Irish stout is brewed in the County Cork. Not as dry as Guinness, but every bit as delicious - breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Guinness Irish Stout ~

This dry Irish stout is brewed in Dublin. "...like drinkin' a brownie!" An all time classic.

Bell's Beer ~

This beer is brewed right here in Michigan, USA!! Several great styles, my favorites of which are the Bell's Best Brown, Oberon, and Two Hearted Ale. Some of the very best beer I've ever had.

***WHISKEY***

Bushmill's Irish Whiskey ~

Bushmill's Irish whiskey is easy going down and not too bad coming back up either! Affordable and delicious...

Black Bush Irish Whiskey ~

Black Bush is rarer and more expensive than it's namesake above, but well worth the extra effort. Great on ice and with water.

Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey ~

Boy do these go down easy! It's fun watching the bartender going down to the cellar for another bottle! Also Great on ice and with water.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Old Scotch Whisky ~

This is my favorite Scotch whisky. Very smooth and easy. I like mine about 50-50 with ice water. A bit pricey compared to most readily available varieties, but a distinct difference between this and cheaper Scotch.

*****

Lately, it's been almost exclusively Boubon for me. Distilled and bottled in Kentucky, USA, this American Whiskey is a bit raspier than Irish or Scotch. It's very addicting and delicious, especially when you start getting into the good stuff!

*****

Wild Turkey Bourbon ~

Affordable and smooth as a baby's bottom...over crushed ice with a splash of spring water. mmmmmm... Try the 101 proof - worth the couple extra bucks!

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Bourbon ~

Similar to its older brother above, but 108 proof compared to 80 or 101 gives it a bit of a bite. Enjoy this neat or over ice.

Maker's Mark Bourbon ~

90 proof small batch whiskey - probably my favorite of all drinks right now. These have a tendency to catch up with me quickly, so be careful!

Rowan's Creek Bourbon ~

Here's another small batch bourbon - very small batch. Very yummy and clean too! It's easy to wake up to an empty bottle on a Sunday morning and have a perfectly productive day!

The Beam Family ~

Basil Hayden's, Knob Creek, Baker's & Booker's are all premium bourbons made by the Jim Beam family. I love each of these bourbons and would often take any of them over any other whiskey with the exception of Maker's Mark. Each a different proof and recipe, but each truly a delight to partake in! It's all quality here, folks.

Jim Beam Bourbon ~

Called "The Reverend" by those who know, Beam is an excellent affordable bourbon - sort of a default when you're at a poorly stocked bar at a wedding or event. Much better than cheap Scotch.

Jim Beam Black ~

Excellent "every day" bourbon here. A couple extra buck for the upgrade, but well worth it. A bit more flavor, a bit more alcohol.

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon ~

This is special stuff. Very expensive and fairly rare. It's hard to justify spending near $100 on a bottle of booze but we did it for New Year's Eve 2001. Very tasty and robust!

Rebel Yell Bourbon ~

Once I heard it was Keith Richards' favorite, I had to try some. That was about 10 years ago. I've moved on to some of the better bourbons listed above since then, but this bottle has been catching my eye lately at the store. Soon I will be reaquainted with the rebel!
